IB EdgeControl testimonial

As the first and largest network of local news Web channels, IB' Web channels represent the leading American television broadcasting stations, including all of General Electric Company's NBC outlets and Cox Television. IB has long relied on Akamai’s distributed computing platform to effectively increase the performance, scalability and flexibility of their infrastructure. IB approached Akamai with a challenge: numerous constituencies throughout IB client organizations required access to data (such as site traffic & user behaviors) from both the IB network and the Akamai network, necessitating the deployment of a management tool that would allow this consolidated access.

Akamai's solution was to provide a single ENMS (Enterprise Network Management System) interface that would integrate the system used to monitor IB' internal network with those used to monitor the Akamai network. Akamai's EdgeControl was deployed to provide a comprehensive collection of management and reporting tools. Through Edge Contol, IB and their clients can view and control their traffic and content on the Akamai network and study content usage patterns. For greater control and convenience, Akamai provided. the EdgeControl-MIB (Management Information Base). This SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) agent enables IB to integrate data from the Akamai network into their existing network management tools, providing a single interface to manage and monitor all of their network content.

"Akamai's EdgeControl-MIB product allows us to record all Akamai-based performance metrics, alerts and events and then redistribute that data to our Helpdesk personnel, contractors, and systems administrators. The fact that Akamai went to the trouble to make this available via the industry-standard SNMP protocol shows how much they understand real enterprise monitoring environments."
