Akamai Appoints Timothy Weller As CFO
CAMBRIDGE, MA, August 24, 1999 -- Akamai Technologies, which operates a global Internet content delivery service that speeds up Web performance, announced today the appointment of Timothy Weller as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Joining Akamai from the investment banking firm Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ), Mr. Weller brings a range of experience in financial and strategic analysis and capital raising within the Internet and telecommunications industries. Mr. Weller's appointment to CFO is effective beginning in September.
As an equity research analyst following telecommunications services at DLJ, Mr. Weller provided stock coverage of the Regional Bells and long-distance companies. Most recently, he focused on the Competitive Local Exchange Carriers and Internet Service Provider market space. His research has centered on technologies in the telecommunications and Internet markets. Mr. Weller has been recognized as a leading telecom financial analyst including a citation in the most recent Institutional Investor survey.

Mr. Weller was the lead analyst on many advisory assignments including the proposed Qwest/USWEST merger. He has been involved in over $10 billion of lead-managed equity and debt financings for companies such as Global Telesystems, IXnet, Metromedia, MindSpring, NTL, PSINet, Qwest, and Verio.
With a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and a B.S. and M.S. from Michigan State University, Mr. Weller is an author of six scientific papers in the areas of information theory and computer networking.
