Addition of NBCi affirms Akamai's lead in providing content and application delivery services to today's top portal and

CAMBRIDGE, MA, January 12, 2000 -- Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the foremost provider of global, high-performance services for the delivery of Internet content and applications, today announced the addition of NBC Internet, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBCI), a branded global integrated media company and operator of the sixth-largest family of Internet properties, to its rapidly growing base of bellwether customers. NBCi's flagship service, the Snap Internet portal (www.snap.com), is the first of NBCi's portfolio of online properties to 'Akamaize' its site.

Akamai's FreeFlowSM service will enable the delivery of Snap's rich content and applications with increased speed, performance and reliability, better serving its end users that access the portal's search and shopping services, directory of Web sites and over 500 resource centers daily. With the addition of NBCi and Snap, Akamai serves seven of the Web's major search sites and 11 of the Web's top media sites making it the leading provider of content and application delivery services in each of these categories.

As NBCi's flagship consumer brand, Snap is renowned for its efficient, high-quality Internet search results, comprehensive directory listings, engaging content from hundreds of Web publishers, and high-quality shopping and e-commerce services. Leveraging best-of-breed Internet technologies to constantly improve its site's high-quality performance is integral to the success of Snap as it works to continue its growth on the Web.

In selecting an Internet content delivery service provider, NBCi used a combination of third-party and internal tests to conduct live, head-to-head trials between Akamai's FreeFlow service and other competing services to determine which service performed better, faster and with the fewest errors. NBCi made its decision to team with Akamai for its ability to consistently deliver faster page downloads, its top-notch customer service and support team, and its commitment to technology innovation.

"As NBCi's flagship portal service, speed, performance and reliability are critical ingredients to making Snap a successful business. We are impressed with FreeFlow's ability to dramatically increase the speed at which our content and images are delivered," said Kenneth Norton, chief technology officer, NBCi. "We look forward to working closely with Akamai in this exciting technology alliance."

"NBCi marks a significant customer win for Akamai and we are extremely pleased to announce this leading Web property to our roster of more than 200 customers," said George Conrades, chairman and chief executive officer, Akamai. "For NBCi, the proof was in the strength of our technology, our superior customer service and the reputable brand we have built on the Internet. We look forward to evolving our services to meet the Web performance needs of NBCi for many years to come."
