Akamai and America Online in Alliance to Deliver High-Performance Internet Content and Streaming Media
CAMBRIDGE, MA - February 16, 2000 - Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ: AKAM), the foremost provider of global, high performance services for the delivery of Internet content, streaming media, and applications, today announced an alliance with America Online, Inc. (AOL), the world's leading interactive services company, to deploy Akamai edge servers within the AOL network to improve performance and reliability for the delivery of some of the Web's most popular content to AOL members. Akamai will also make guaranteed payments to AOL.
Akamai's deployment of its technology within the AOL network will enable AOL to serve Internet content to its members directly from within the AOL network, speeding the delivery of Akamai-served content to these members. It will also improve quality and reliability of large audio and video streaming events served by Akamai from within AOL's network.
