The worldwide general agreement signed by Europatweb and Akamai will allow the 50 companies controlled by Europatweb to speed up their web sites and provide high-quality audio and video streaming

Paris, France -- 30 October 2000 -- Europatweb, the Internet industrial arm of Bernard Arnault's family holding, has chosen Akamai Technologies, Inc.'s (NASDAQ: AKAM) FreeFlowSM and FreeFlowSM Streaming services for all companies across Europatweb's group. Europatweb's group companies are strongly positioned in the four most promising fields of activity on the web: virtual marketplaces (Aucland, ImmoStreet.com, Qxl.com, etc.); virtual communities and content providers (Liberty Surf, Peoplesound, Sportal, etc.); technology and services necessary for Internet development (Moonfruit, NetValue, Globeflow, etc.); and e-commerce (Zebank, Alafolie.com, Wine&Co, etc.), and each are set to experience the benefits of Akamai's technology on their sites.

Europatweb's mission is to provide operational support to its network of Internet companies, and finding high-level technological partners is part of this mission. Akamai's ability to solve the three main problems facing content providers on the Internet - performance, scalability and reliability of their web structure - was the determining factor for Europatweb's selection.

Jean David Chamboredon, Europatweb's Technology Director explains, "The services provided by Akamai, and the powerful technologies supporting them, are just what we need for Europatweb's varied sites, which generate significant traffic. Akamai increases response times for surfers, and this is a crucial factor for getting people to revisit a site."

"We are of course very honored to have been chosen by the Arnault Group and Europatweb, who are among the most ambitious and most efficient global players in the net economy," said Bernard Seïté, Akamai Managing Director for Southern Europe. "Akamai's mission includes helping companies such as Europatweb stand out from the competition by enhancing the performance of their web sites and delivery of their wealth of content."
