Akamai and SiteSmith Enter into Strategic Alliance
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and SANTA CLARA, Calif., January 9, 2001 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading Content Delivery Service Provider (CDSP), and SiteSmith, Inc., a leading provider of comprehensive Internet infrastructure managed services, today announced that SiteSmith will add Akamai's comprehensive global Internet content delivery services to its Internet infrastructure service offering.
The strategic relationship between the two companies enables SiteSmith to provide its existing, as well as prospective customers, access to Akamai's end-to-end solutions for enhancing Web performance. Akamai's services allow e-businesses to leverage infrastructure investments while reaping the benefits of rapid, reliable content delivery, high-quality streaming media delivery, advanced global traffic management, Web usage reporting, and other value-added Web performance services.
As a leader in providing Internet infrastructure managed services, SiteSmith becomes an important channel for Akamai. Akamai selected SiteSmith for this strategic relationship because of SiteSmith's strong customer base and capabilities for developing and managing complex Internet sites.
"SiteSmith is representative of the kind of company in which Akamai is interested in working -- one which excels in the managed services market," said Bob Hughes, director of channel sales and programs, Akamai. "Akamai and SiteSmith provide complementary technologies for leading businesses throughout the world, and we are excited to work aggressively together to offer optimized solutions that combine content delivery with managed service capabilities."
"SiteSmith is committed to partnering with industry leaders that are dedicated to simplifying the complexity of utilizing the Internet for mission critical applications," said Frank Slattery, vice president of business development and general counsel. "Together, SiteSmith and Akamai provide customers with highly available and reliable Internet sites on a 24x7 basis."
In addition to SiteSmith providing customers a joint offering of both company's technologies, Akamai and SiteSmith are also mutual customers of each other. Akamai selected SiteSmith to help build Akamai's network infrastructure by providing effective rapid deployment of servers at various data centers throughout the U.S. SiteSmith has also taken advantage of Akamai's FreeFlowSM service for the delivery of rich, engaging content for its own site, www.sitesmith.com.
