InstallShield ® and Akamai Team Up to Enhance Delivery of Large Download Files
Akamai's DPS leverages Akamai's globally distributed network and advanced routing technologies for the high-performance, efficient distribution of digitized assets from the Internet's edge. The integration of a customized version of InstallShield's DigitalWizard technology with Akamai DPS is expected to improve the ease, efficiency and reliability of each download by providing end users with a simple, fully automated download process. The integrated version of DigitalWizard will also enable Akamai DPS customers to obtain key information about the actual success of each download, allowing them to determine if the content was efficiently delivered.

Through the enhanced Akamai DPS, slated for commercial availability in Q2 2001, each file will be delivered using a customized version of DigitalWizard developed exclusively for Akamai, simplifying the download process for end users. In addition, the DigitalWizard technology will provide advanced functionality to improve the reliability of each download. DigitalWizard's automated recovery and download scheduling capabilities allow consumers to resume downloading in the event of a broken connection as well as schedule their downloads for future dates and times.
