Prestigious Award Presented by MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge for Outstanding Vision and Innovation
Cambridge, MA - October 4, 2001 - The MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge announced today that Dr. Tom Leighton, co-founder, chief scientist, and board member of Akamai Technologies, Inc., will be presented with the prestigious 2001 Entrepreneurial Innovation Award for his significant contributions to the growth and success of Akamai Technologies. Dr. Leighton will accept the award at the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge's next event, October 10, 2001, as voted on by the Forum's executive board."Dr. Leighton is one of the guiding forces behind Akamai Technologies," said Forrest Milder, chair, MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge. "He exemplifies what this award is all about: creating and managing growth and innovation while teaching others new possibilities to improve upon the technology that drives today's businesses."
Dr. Leighton co-founded Akamai Technologies in September 1998 with Daniel Lewin and a leading group of Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists and business professionals. As chief scientist, Dr. Leighton is Akamai's technology visionary as well as a key member of Akamai's Management Committee, overseeing the company's technology roadmap and direction.
The MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge began the Entrepreneurial Leadership Awards at MIT in 1993. The award recognizes the singular distinction of a small group of corporate founders who have promulgated their entrepreneurial ideas through the innovative use of technology, who have revolutionized the cultural context of corporate identity, and who have engaged and motivated other would-be entrepreneurs through their own participation in entrepreneurial education.
