Macworld Keynote Webcast reaches 16.5 Gigabits per second of video streamed; represents one of the largest live corporate streaming events delivered to date
CAMBRIDGE, MA - January 10, 2002 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM) today announced that the Webcast of the Macworld San Francisco keynote delivered by Steve Jobs on Monday set new Internet records for a single, live corporate streaming event. More than 11 Terabytes of content were served during the two-hour Webcast, which attracted more than 160,000 unique web visitors. During the peak of the Webcast, more than 16.5 Gigabits per second of video were streamed at broadband rates to more than 81,000 simultaneous viewers.As companies continue to turn to streaming media for the effective and reliable delivery of business-critical content, Akamai has again demonstrated the benefits of utilizing a global and scalable platform to support large-scale, one-to-many corporate streaming.
During the keynote, Jobs unveiled Apple's new iMac®, with a groundbreaking flat-panel design. The Webcast at www.apple.com delivered the equivalent of 8.26 million minutes, or approximately 138,000 hours, of content. The keynote was streamed over Apple's QuickTime TV (QTV) network managed by Akamai.
