Akamai to extend its global platform within EarthLink's network for delivery of Internet content and applications
Cambridge, MA - January 17, 2002 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), a leading provider of secure, outsourced e-business infrastructure services and software, today announced the deployment of Akamai's edge delivery servers within leading Internet Service Provider (ISP) EarthLink's (Nasdaq: ELNK) network, providing EarthLink's approximately 4.8 million subscribers with improved quality and reliability of all forms of Internet content served on the Akamai Platform. The agreement follows an extensive trial period through which Akamai's servers proved to measurably increase performance for users of the EarthLink network.The deployment marks the first-of-its-kind for EarthLink and enables Akamai to expand the reach of the Akamai Platform for high-performance delivery of content and Web-based applications from the Internet's edge. EarthLink will be able to conserve transit bandwidth resources while providing subscribers with faster downloads and enhanced quality and reliability of AkamaizedSM content, including static and dynamic content, HTML, streaming media, and digitized downloads, from hundreds of leading e-businesses that leverage Akamai's integrated suite of services.
