Gómez to leverage Akamai EdgeScapeSM to combine performance measurement with

Cambridge, MA and Waltham, MA - March 4, 2002 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), a leading provider of secure, outsourced e-business infrastructure services and software, and Gómez, Inc., the Internet Quality Measurement firm, today announced a strategic relationship through which e-businesses can benefit from performance measurement solutions that provide real-time insight into end user geo-location and network characterization data.

"Enterprises with e-business systems recognize the value of providing a consistent user experience. To do this, management vendors need to provide solutions that measure the quality of end-user interaction with business systems," said Jeb Bolding, research director at Enterprise Management Associates, a technology analyst firm that specializes in management software and services. "Combining Akamai's IP intelligence capabilities with Gomez's performance measurement capabilities enables organizations to better understand the impact of specific Internet networking patterns on quality of service."

Gómez provides Internet quality measurement services that deliver competitive benchmarking, intelligence, and insight to help companies optimize their customers' online experience. As part of the agreement between the two companies, Gómez has licensed the Akamai EdgeScape technology to add IP intelligence to the information available through the Gómez Performance Network, which measures Web page and transaction performance in real-time. EdgeScape's IP intelligence includes characterization of individual IP addresses by measured connection speed and geo-location to the city-level, enabling Gómez to enrich its services and analyses with data that shows how end user location and Internet connection speed affect the quality of the online experience.

"Gómez is committed to innovating new ways of capturing and presenting critical performance measurement information to help today's leading e-businesses better benchmark and optimize their Web site performance," said Jeff Banker, vice president, Gómez. "Akamai's proven technology and global network presence will enhance the value of our services by revealing a unique view into the quality of the end user's Internet experience based on geographic location and measured bandwidth throughput." "Now more than ever, businesses are focusing on driving maximum benefit from their e-marketing investments," said Michael Ruffolo, executive vice president, Global Sales, Services and Marketing, Akamai. "As a leader in performance measurement, Gómez understands these challenges, and we're pleased to assist their efforts in using IP intelligence to maximize the value of their offerings and increase revenues."

With its massively distributed global platform and continuous mapping of the Internet, Akamai has an exceptional ability to provide e-businesses with real-time network knowledge for the delivery of targeted content and the protection of their digital goods and information. The EdgeScape technology correlates geographic and network information to IP addresses, enabling the customization of content without compromising end user privacy. By leveraging the EdgeScape technology, Gómez will be able to help e-businesses measure the quality of online experience according to an end user's Internet connection speed or geographic location.
