Akamai's large-scale deployment of Windows Media Services 9 Series on Windows Server 2003 to provide exclusive delivery of live executive webcast

CAMBRIDGE, MA, April 22, 2003 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), a provider of products and services that enable the world's leading enterprises and government agencies to extend and control their e-business infrastructure, today announced its selection by Microsoft Corp. to provide the global streaming delivery network in support of the April 24th Executive Keynote at Microsoft's Windows 2003 server launch at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer and Group Vice President Jim Allchin will introduce Microsoft's newest server technology at the joint launch of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003. The keynote will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

Akamai's global network is one of the largest deployments of servers running Microsoft Windows Server 2003. By deploying Windows Media Services 9 Series, Microsoft's next-generation digital media streaming server, Akamai's customers benefit from high-quality streaming delivery with a more television-like instant-on, always-on streaming audio and video for broadband users, and significant performance improvements for dial-up users, including dramatically improved reliability and scalability.

"Akamai's use of Windows Media Services 9 Series will help ensure that viewers have the best possible viewing experience for this groundbreaking event," said Jonathan Usher, director of the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft Corp.

"Microsoft is a leader in shaping digital media technologies, and is again bringing to market innovation that helps propel the use of streaming applications," said Bill Weihl, chief technology officer, Akamai. "Akamai's global footprint, with support for Windows Media Services 9 Series, is unique in the industry. We are excited to provide the delivery infrastructure for this keynote, which will undoubtedly be one of the largest, live Windows Media Services 9 Series events to date."
