Akamai Will Provide Gavel-to-Gavel Streaming Coverage During Four-Day Convention in Boston

BOSTON, MA, July 19, 2004 - The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today announced that Cambridge-based Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the global leader of distributed computing solutions and services, has been named the official streaming media provider of the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Akamai, also the official streaming media provider for the 2000 Democratic Convention in Los Angeles, will provide gavel-to-gavel streaming coverage during the four-day convention, occurring July 26-29 in Boston.

"The ability to have content streamed live throughout the 2004 Convention will help us achieve one of our primary goals: an inclusive Convention designed for maximum participation by all Americans," said Rod O'Connor, CEO of the DNCC. "Akamai's extensive experience in the political arena will provide immediate access to Convention events, and we are proud to work with them once again this year."

Akamai's EdgeSuiteSM Service and globally distributed computing platform will be used to deliver live and on-demand streaming audio and video, as well as website content, enabling a global audience to experience high quality, live streaming of Convention events. The Convention proceedings will be accessible live via the Internet at www.dems2004.org. The Democratic Convention will have the scalability on demand to support high numbers of concurrent streams to a worldwide audience, as well as the control to manage usage in a cost-effective manner. Also, in the weeks leading up to the Convention, as well as two days following the event, Akamai will stream a variety of previously-recorded speeches and news clips relating to the Convention and upcoming election.

Akamai has been instrumental in supporting a variety of campaign sites in the recent past, including previous national conventions of the two major parties, as well as www.johnkerry.com and www.democrats.org

"Akamai is pleased to once again serve as the official streaming provider for the Democratic National Convention. The ability to provide people around the world live coverage of the political process is something we're excited to be a part of," said Keith E. Johnson, vice president of public sector, Akamai. "Akamai's streaming technology and expansive network continue to attract key events that leverage the Internet's economies of scale."

Utilizing Akamai's global network of over 14,000 servers, the Democratic Convention will have the scalability on demand to support a worldwide audience. In addition, Akamai's integrated reporting tools will provide Convention organizers with real-time control over their site infrastructure to effectively measure the success of their programming and to better understand visitors and their interests, insight that will allow them to enhance web visitors' online experience.
