AMD testimonial

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) is a leading global provider of innovative processing solutions in the computing, graphics and consumer electronics markets. In 2006, AMD solidified its position as a processing powerhouse when it merged with ATI Technologies (ATI), thereby acquiring design and manufacturing operations involving innovative 3D graphics, PC platform technologies and digital media silicon solutions. These solutions are now part of the Visual and Media Businesses at AMD. AMD's Web site, an integral part of its business operations, serves millions of customers around the world by, for example, providing a simple way for users to purchase video cards, software and accessories, and to access and download drivers.

Since implementing the Akamai solution in 2003, AMD has steadily increased the amount of content served from its Web site, as well as download file sizes. In total, the Web site has had an increase of over 400 percent in driver downloads since 2003. The AMD Web site also now serves an average of eight million unique users per month, a significant number of which are outside of North America. With Akamai, AMD is managing this growth, while effectively containing the costs of serving a growing customer base via the Web. "We need a pricing model that does not require us to pay high bursting charges, and building out our own infrastructure is not an option due to the prohibitive costs. With Akamai's flexible pricing model, we are able to serve our customers reliably and at a predictable cost," explains Sebastian Aruta, Manager for Internet Development, Global Internet Marketing at AMD.

"Now that we are maintaining consistently high download completion rates, we are free to add applications and increase file sizes as needed. This helps us respond to market demands and keep our customers satisfied."
