IntraLinks is a leading global provider of Software-as-a-Service solutions for securely managing content and exchanging critical business information. Since 1997, more than 1,000,000 professionals in a variety of industries – including financial services, life sciences, and legal – have used IntraLinks' cloud-based solutions to enable collaboration within and among organizations. Users include the top 50 global financial companies and top 25 global law firms. On average, nearly 30,000 users log in daily to conduct over two million Web transactions, exchanging terabytes of information every day.
Global corporations trust IntraLinks with their most sensitive documents, including M&A documentation, clinical trials information, and board communications. The IntraLinks Web application balances high security with an easier to use interface, which is why Adobe's Flex was chosen for a rich client interface. With this on-demand application, users upload documents into an IntraLinks exchange and can then collaborate, manage, and exchange critical information with other authorized users around the world.
Because IntraLinks' clients need to upload large numbers of documents, it's important that the company quickly meets all Web requests in a timely manner. Specifically, IntraLinks targets that 95% of all information is uploaded in less than one second.
IntraLinks utilizes two data centers in North America and two data centers for content storage in EMEA. With a growing number of regional niche competitors cropping up around the globe – and 35% of revenue coming from customers outside of the US – IntraLinks realized that it needed to identify additional solutions. “As we serve a growing number of users around the world who are accessing our applications over constrained bandwidth, we need to ensure fast performance,” explains John Landy, CTO for IntraLinks.
During its evaluation of the Akamai solutions, files were delivered 20% faster in the U.S., 50-100% faster in Europe, and 100-200% faster in Asia- Pacific. “The further that users are from our data centers, the better the performance improvement,” says Charlie Weiblen, VP of performance and capacity engineering for IntraLinks.
Just as important, as the user experience improves, IntraLinks sees customer satisfaction increase to an even greater level. “Our global enterprise services team gets direct feedback from customers who are happy with the ability to quickly conduct their business on our platform,” continues Landy.
“By using Akamai's global network routing and application acceleration services to reduce standard network latency over the Internet, we give our customers the feeling that our application is running local within their data center. This helps us win deals against local, niche players.”
