• Akamai Quarterly Newsletter | Q4 2011

Welcome. We've got so much to talk about. Bob HughesThis is a special edition of the Akamai Quarterly — fully focused on highlights from AKAMAI EDGE 2011, our recent customer conference. Over a three-day period in October, more than 550 Akamai customers from 29 countries gathered in Boston to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by our increasingly hyperconnected world.

Between the inspiring keynotes, the in-depth technical sessions, and the disruptive business models presented in both the main stage and breakout environments—all attendees were left with a lot to think about; mainly how they could drive their businesses faster forward leveraging Akamai technology.
For those who joined us: Thank you so much for coming. And for those who weren't able to attend, we've made many of the presentation videos available on our conference website. Whether the material is new to you, or you're just re-living it—it's a handy reference. Next year we're taking the EDGE conference to Las Vegas. 2012 promises to be an even more essential event—the networking opportunities alone are worth the trip. Enjoy the highlights below, remember to visit conference archives and we will see you all in Las Vegas for Akamai EDGE 2012.
    Best regards,
    Bob Hughes
Executive Vice President, Global Sales, Services & Marketing
  • Our biggest conference to date

Akamai EDGE 2011 was the largest gathering of Akamai customers, business partners and technology leaders — EVER.

Keynote presentations focused on the challenges, visions and best practices for innovating in a hyperconnected world, and we were proud to feature presentations from leading companies. ASOS.com, Cisco, EMC Corp, Ericsson, Facebook, Harley-Davidson, Hertz, IBM, News Corporation, Quanta Computers and Rackspace Hosting all shared valuable insights with often overflowing audiences.

The topics were as varied as the challenges we face, but each demonstrated that doing business online—and doing it well—is accelerating in importance.

Over three days, attendees gained valuable insight from not only the keynote speakers, but from other Akamai customers and Akamai experts. Industry and technical tracks, along with a pre–conference "Akamai University" workshop proved very informative to attendees as well. Also featured was a preview of the upcoming new Akamai customer portal—a product created largely with the help of direct customer feedback.

Akamai executives also shared their vision for their own role in the hyperconnected world: to deliver any experience, to any device, anywhere. And to push innovation "Faster Forward" both internally, and with customers.

There was so much activity it was easy to miss some of it. Presentations, on-demand videos, and other content from the conference can be found in our presentation archives.
  • Attendees by industry

This year's conference saw a significant increase in attendees from global enterprises and cross-vertical organizations; demonstrating a clear, seismic shift in how organizations across all industries are spreading their information and intelligence online. In part, it's recognition that we no longer "go online," rather, we are always online and increasingly, nearly every part of any business features an online component. Akamai joins today's business innovators in the shared goal of delivering any experience to any device, anywhere. Below is a breakdown of attendees from this years conference. Major industry groups were varied and well represented; attendees were able to share knowledge not only vertically, but horizontally as well.
  • View EDGE highlights and presentation materials

Presentations contained so much valuable material; we received numerous requests for copies, videos and further in-depth materials. So we created an on-demand library featuring videos and presentations and the files have been posted here. Whether you attended EDGE or not, we encourage you to peruse the materials as well as share them with friends and colleagues. Be sure to revisit from time to time, as we'll be posting additional materials as well.

  • The EdgeControl Portal redesign revealed!

Throughout the conference, attendees could visit The Customer Experience Kiosk to get an up close and personal demonstration of the upcoming, fully-redesigned EdgeControl Portal.
