What is the Retail Index? |

The Akamai Net Usage Index for Retail is the world's first and only daily Web traffic benchmark that tracks the world's online retail habits. Akamai, as the content delivery platform for more than 270 global online retail companies, has a unique view into the daily Web traffic of these sites. Akamai has been in business since 1999, and serves content on behalf of a large majority of the world's leading retailers. More than half of the top 50 online retailers trust Akamai. Online Retail continues to grow. Reports show that in 5 years, it will be difficult to find a person over 18 who has not shopped online. During the holiday season, 4 of out of 5 people in recent surveys expect to use the Internet to research or purchase gifts. Without releasing any proprietary data about its individual retail customers, Akamai is aggregating data on behalf of over 270 leading retail customers from around the world. Collectively, this data will capture peak page views delivered across the Akamai Platform in any 24-hour period. By plotting these peaks for each day, the Akamai Net Usage Index for Retail will benchmark the world's online retail habits. |
