Methodology
The Akamai Net Usage Index for Advertising is the industry's first and only Web traffic benchmark to track aggregate Web usage patterns before, during and after the Super Bowl for Akamai's customers that are integrating their nationally televised advertising campaigns with an online component. During pro football's most popular event on February 5, 2012, Akamai will be the content and applications delivery platform for more than half of the nationally televised advertisers that are seeking high performance and availability of their online marketing presence.
The Akamai Net Usage Index for Advertising will provide an aggregate view of total visitors per minute to a collection of more than half of the advertisers' sites.
Following is an explanation of how we measure visitors / minute:

KEY

V/M = measures Page Views per minute* to aggregate advertising/promotional sites (this number reflects the current rate in each geographic region)
% = measures the percent above or below the average Page Views per minute for that time of day, and day of week, within each geographic region
* for each minute, Akamai is measuring the number of visitors that viewed a page or more during that minute

Data Collection
With the data available through Akamai's Net Usage Index, businesses will have real-time information about the success of their advertisements, allowing them to understand the value of their investment. Akamai will not release web usage data on any one customer, but will provide an aggregate view into elevated web traffic patterns. The Akamai Net Usage Index for Advertising will exist for two weeks after the Super Bowl to show resulting trends.
