San Jose, CA |

Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading global service provider for accelerating content and business processes online, announced today that Comedy Central, the only all-comedy network, relies on Akamai Media Delivery to support its recently launched MotherLoad broadband channel initiative.

MotherLoad (www.comedycentral.com/motherload) is a free broadband video channel designed to offer consumers a new way to access original video content and popular programming on the Internet. MotherLoad offers five different content channels with more than 950 video clips and plans to add 50 to 80 new clips per week. The site is airing three-minute clips from original Comedy Central shows, including "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report." Akamai Media Delivery enables the secure delivery and download of these clips, giving subscribers high-quality, reliable streams every time. Visitors to the site can customize their programming line-up, easily add new shows to their playlists and quickly send favorite clips or shows to friends via email.

"Comedy Central's new broadband channel is another example of the explosive change taking place in the digital media and entertainment space as TV audiences migrate online," said Robert Hughes, Executive Vice President, Global Sales, Services and Marketing, Akamai. "Akamai's global media delivery platform is already in place to support the quality, scale and security that content owners require as they turn to the Internet as a way to extend their brand and offer innovative online advertising products to traditional advertisers."

Comedy Central is a longstanding Akamai customer, and because of its existing relationship was able to roll out this major new offering without additional infrastructure or excessive costs. Akamai's globally distributed platform is ideally positioned to support the volume that this type of engagement creates - whether streaming live or on demand - as well as the high-quality experience that customers and content owners demand.

"MotherLoad is designed to give the Comedy Central audience a customized, TV-like experience on their computers," said Beth Lewand, Vice President Digital Media, Comedy Central. "Our users want a huge selection of high-quality video and they want to get it, when they want it. That's what we're giving them."
