Dr. Robert D. Atkinson is one of the country’s foremost thinkers on innovation economics. With an extensive background in technology policy, he has conducted groundbreaking research projects on technology and innovation, is a valued adviser to state and national policy makers, and a popular speaker on innovation policy nationally and internationally. Before founding ITIF, Atkinson was Vice President of the Progressive Policy Institute and Director of PPI’s Technology & New Economy Project. He received his Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon and was named a distinguished alumnus in 2014. He received his Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989.

Pierre-Louis Biaggi has been in charge of the Network domain activity for 18 months with the objective to grow Orange Business Services’ position in this market through an aggressive strategy both in France and internationally around Hybrid Networks. Pierre-Louis joined Orange Business Services 10 years ago to develop the Services activity, and has worked to grow the organic and the external growth of OBS in this domain. Before joining OBS, Pierre-Louis had various positions in the telecom/IT industry in companies like Bosch Telecom, Alcatel Lucent and NextiraOne. Pierre-Louis completed an engineering degree at Telecom ParisTech, a Master in Economics at University of Paris II and a MBA at INSEAD.

Micael Dahlen is a professor at the Stockholm School of Economics. In his academic career, he rose rapidly to take up a leading position in the field of consumer behavior, creativity, and marketing. Dahlen has been ranked number 10 in the world among researchers in his field and was nominated for the Business Professor of the Year Award by The Economist’s Intelligence Unit. Professor Dahlen has written books on diverse topics such as marketing, happiness, serial killers (it’s true), sex, and social media. His books are published in Europe, in Asia and in the United States. Micael is an internationally acclaimed speaker and has given keynote presentations in cities that include Istanbul, New York, Lisbon, and Shanghai, for clients such as Google, Ericsson, Samsung, Deloitte, Volkswagen, Fujitsu, and Oriflame.

Born on July 2, 1964 in Munich, Andi started his professional career as a radio, television, and sound engineer. He later served as the CEO of SAE, Austria’s first private sound engineering school. From 1989 to 1991, he served as the Deputy Head of Technology at Antenne Bayern radio station, and the Head of Technology of 104.6 RTL (Berlin). In 1992, he founded Mondocom GmbH (Munich and Vienna), which operates the technical premises of Austrian national radio Ö3. From 2002 to 2007, Andi served as the Chief Technology Officer for Austrian national broadcaster ORF. Since 2007, Andi has served as the Chief Technology Officer at Red Bull Media House.

Robert (Bob) Hughes serves as Strategic Advisor to the CEO. With more than 12 years of executive leadership responsibilities at Akamai, Mr. Hughes most recently served as President of Worldwide Operations, overseeing the company's day-to-day global business operations. During Hughes’ tenure leading the company’s global sales, services and marketing operations, Akamai grew annual revenues from $90M to over $2 billion. Hughes also helped launch and grow Akamai’s security business during that time, achieving an annualized run rate of nearly $300 million, and positioning the Company as the leader in cloud security services. Today, serving more Web traffic than anyone in the world, Akamai has become the leading CDN and cloud services platform for businesses to securely deliver high performing user experiences to any device, anywhere.


Tom Leighton

CEO & Co-founder, Akamai Technolgies

Dr. Tom Leighton co-founded Akamai Technologies in 1998, and served as Akamai's Chief Scientist for 14 years before becoming Chief Executive. Prior to his role as CEO, Dr. Leighton served as a Professor of Applied Mathematics at MIT and a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). As one of the world's preeminent authorities on algorithms for network applications, Dr. Leighton's work behind establishing Akamai was based on recognizing that a solution to freeing up Web congestion could be found in applied mathematics and algorithms. During the course of his career, he has served on dozens of government, industrial and academic review committees. From 2003 to 2005, he served on the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC), during which time he chaired the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity. He has published more than 100 research papers and holds numerous patents involving content delivery, Internet protocols, cryptography, and digital rights management. Dr. Leighton graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a B.S. in Engineering and received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from MIT.

Mr. Liu Yuanchen is the CTO of Blued, creator of the world’s most popular free gay social mobile app. Under his leadership, Blued focused on developing innovative customer oriented service and successfully grew their user base to tens of millions worldwide. Before Blued, Mr. Liu held senior leadership roles within Baidu, the largest Internet search engine company in China. He was responsible for leading the R&D team of Baidu Mobile Search, Mobile Assistant and Baidu Cloud service, which account for more than one hundred and fifty million (USD) annual revenue for Baidu. Mr. Liu is also an active volunteer, promoting Aids prevention and awareness among gay communities. In 2015, Mr. Liu was received by Mr. Michel Sidibé, Vice Deputy Secretary of the United Nations and was recognized for his outstanding contribution.

Vice President of IQIYI.COM

Mr. Wenfeng Liu is the Vice President of IQIYI.COM, which is the top 1 online video website in China. He is in charge of IQIYI’s IT infrastructure, which includes cloud platform, CDN and P2P, and the video streaming software development. IQIYI has the largest DIY video CDN network in China and the largest video P2P network. His team integrates them seamlessly to HCDN (Hybrid CDN) for best streaming performance and cost-efficiency. He also leads the earliest adoption of OpenStack for IQIYI and builds the top 1 OpenStack private cloud in China. Before he joined IQIYI, he worked for VMware on vSphere product development. Prior to joining VMware, he worked for Intel for eight years where he focused on enabling Intel’s microarchitecture technologies on enterprise Linux Operating Systems, such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Novell/SuSE Linux Enterprise Server and Oracle Enterprise Linux, etc. Mr. Liu holds bachelor and master degree of Computer Science from Zhejiang University in China. As a partner of Akamai, IQIYI extends its service outside of China by Akamai since 2014. Akamai accelerates IQIYI’s video streaming, as well as improving the website response time for customers in North America, South Asia, Japan, and Europe.

Robert Machen joined ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in March of 2010 as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. He leads technology strategy, development and operations. Robert’s current focus is to replace the donor management system and introduce technology that will enhance both donor and volunteer experiences. Since joining ALSAC, Robert has implemented a series of new technologies which have significantly improved ALSAC’s fundraising effectiveness. The current focus is the creation of innovative technology which will enhance how volunteers and supporters engage with St. Jude at events. Previously Robert was an executive at Hilton Hotels Corporation and was responsible for technology strategy and R&D. He led efforts to deploy Internet access and guest technology across its thousands of hotels across the globe. In addition to serving as CIO, Robert is the executive sponsor for our International Foundation Support efforts. He has visited our partner sites throughout Latin America and is a champion for children stricken with cancer in the developing world. Robert earned his bachelor’s degree from Harding University. He is married to Charlene, and they have three children, Jared, Madison and Robbie.

Latha Maripuri is the Chief Information Security Officer at News Corp, a leader in the Publishing and Media industry and owner of key global properties such as the Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, Harper Collins Publishing and Realtor.com. She and her team are responsible for running the cyber security program, including awareness campaigns, policy development, risk management, secure development, incident response, technology deployment and ongoing security operations. Prior to this role, Latha was a business and technology executive at IBM – driving global strategy, product management, M&A, partnerships and operations within IBM’s Security division.

Rick is Executive Vice President of Products and Development at Akamai, the leading cloud platform for helping enterprises provide secure, high-performing user experiences on any device, anywhere. He is responsible for leading the Company's Site, Enterprise Cloud and Media product divisions. With over 25 years of product and business development expertise, Mr. McConnell has focused his career on the areas of Internet communications and collaboration technologies. Prior to joining Akamai, he served as Vice President and General Manager of the Unified Communications Business Unit in Cisco's Voice Technology Group, managing more than 600 people around the globe in engineering and product management. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Quantitative Economics and a Masters of Business Administration, both from Stanford University.


Paul Milkman

Paul leads a largely North American team, responsible for managing business risk through technology across TD’s global enterprise. Prior to joining TD in 2009, Paul had a 25 year career which included both corporate and consulting roles in Risk, Security and Privacy. He has twice prior been the ranking Information Security Officer (Xerox Global Information Security Officer, Fannie Mae VP for Information Security), and also led the Financial Sector and Insurance Consulting Unit at IBM for Security and Privacy Services. In addition he has served as an executive consultant and director for various risk consulting practices. He began his career in business roles – originally as a Registered Representative selling mutual funds as well as coordinating retirement programs for N-F-Ps in Western NY, and later worked in services sales for a large manufacturer. Paul has served as the Chair for the CBA’s Canadian Financial Institution Incident Response Team (an association of Risk and Security folks at the big 5 Canadian Banks) and is a founding driver and key member in the executive leadership of the FS-ISAC, the CEB IREC and a select set of industry groups. Paul also chaired the global fTLD Advisory Council which establishes policy and oversight for the .bank and .insurance domains.

Michelle Munson

CEO & Founder, Aspera, an IBM Company

Michelle is co-inventor of Aspera's Emmy® award-winning fasp™ transport technology and is responsible for overseeing the company's direction in collaboration with co-founder Serban Simu. Michelle was a software engineer in research and start-up companies including the IBM Almaden Research Center before founding Aspera in 2004. She has dual B.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering and in Physics from Kansas State University and was a Goldwater Scholar for achievement in Science and Mathematics, and later a Fulbright Scholar at Cambridge University where she received a postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science. She was the 2006 KSU College of Engineering Alumni Fellow (the youngest recipient ever), and has received national achievement awards from Glamour Magazine and USA Today. Michelle is also a frequent speaker on technologies and trends around big data transport, cloud infrastructure, and mobile.

Brad Rinklin is Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Akamai. His responsibilities include leading Akamai's Marketing & Corporate Communications, Product Marketing, Partner Marketing, Sales Productivity and Channel organizations. Mr. Rinklin has over 19 years of high-technology sales, marketing, training and business development experience. Mr. Rinklin joined Akamai in 2000 as a member of Global Sales where he held several roles including sales engineering and sales management. He was appointed Director of Sales Productivity & Global Field Marketing in 2002 where he built the Sales Productivity and training departments within Akamai and introduced lead and account development to the marketing process. In 2006, Mr. Rinklin was promoted to Vice President of Marketing and evolved the department over the next 4 years into a global department with leadership in EMEA and Asia. In 2010, he added global channels to his responsibilities and has solidified and grown partner relationships with companies such as IBM, Verizon and HP. Prior to Akamai, Mr. Rinklin owned and operated high-tech computer training centers for New Horizons Computer Learning Centers. Mr. Rinklin has a B.S. in Marketing and Economics from Baylor University and post-graduate education from Harvard Business School and MIT Sloan School of Management.

In his prior roles, Guru has championed the architecture and implementation of large private and public clouds in US and Asia region. Guru currently works for Tesla Motors, Inc as VP of IT infrastructure and Operations. At Tesla, Guru and his team have built Tesla's IT Infrastructure and provide end to end IT support for Global business operations including manufacturing and global stores and service center environment. Guru championed several transformational initiatives and led the build-out of the infrastructure of critical IT Systems including vertically integrated home-grown ERP System, Mission critical Factory systems, Engineering tools, High performance compute infrastructure, Website/E-commerce system and Customer facing Service operations systems. Nadia Shouraboura

Dr. Nadia Shouraboura is the CEO of Hointer. Hointer is reinventing the shopping experience, making it easy and fun. At Hointer, men and women have a new way of discovering, trying-on and buying great clothing. Nadia was born in Soviet Russia and pursued her education in mathematics and science in the city of Moscow. In 1987, she began her career after emigrating from Russia to Israel as a software developer working on Computer Aided Design systems for industrial robotics. Her work attracted the attention of professors at Princeton University in the US, where she was offered a full scholarship for study and research. During her PhD work, Nadia performed research at AT&T Bell Labs and co-founded Starlight Multimedia, a developer of multi-media applications. Her work at Princeton resulted in several important papers, referenced by over 200 publications. She received a PhD in Mathematics from Princeton. In 1994 Nadia joined a technology startup, Diamond Technology Partners, working with a variety of major retail companies. Later she joined a JP Morgan Venture startup, Mobilocity, as its Managing Director in charge of the wireless division. Following her leadership role at Mobilocity, Nadia became a pioneer in the emerging world of energy trading, joining Exelon as the manager responsible for the energy trading algorithms and software. Nadia joined Amazon.com in March of 2004. As Technology Vice President of Amazon’s Worldwide Operations she owned technology powering Amazon’s global supply chain and fulfillment. Nadia also served on Jeff Bezos' senior leadership team responsible for overall direction and operations of Amazon.

Peter Warren Singer is Strategist and Senior Fellow at the New America Foundation, founder of NeoLuddite, a technology advisory firm, the author of multiple award-winning books, and a contributing editor at Popular Science. He has been named by the Smithsonian Institution-National Portrait Gallery as one of the 100 "leading innovators in the nation," by Defense News as one of the 100 most influential people in defense issues, by Onalytica social media data analysis as one of the ten most influential voices in the world on cybersecurity, and by Foreign Policy to their Top 100 Global Thinkers List, of the people whose ideas most influenced the world that year. Prior to his current position, Dr. Singer was the founding Director of the Center for 21st Century Security and Intelligence at the Brookings Institution. He was the youngest scholar named Senior Fellow in Brookings' 98-year history. Prior to that, he was the founding Director of the Project on US Policy Towards the Islamic World, where he was the organizer of the US-Islamic World Forum, a global leaders conference. He has also worked for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard. Singer received his Ph.D. in Government from Harvard and a BA from the Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton.

One of Fredrik’s main goals at Gymgrossisten has been to provide a solution to deliver personalized content from cache via ESI. To achieve this, Fredrik oversaw the IT teams' during the migration from an eCommerce platform to Magento. Fredrik has been working with web applications, SEO, load balancing, virtualization, Performance Management and Security Technologies for more than 10 years.

Leon is a Senior Program Manager with extensive product development, operations and consulting experience in delivering Internet based software systems, services and solutions to customers. Having worked at both small (Synetics, Groove Networks) and large (Lotus, IBM, Microsoft) companies, Leon joined HubSpot as a small startup in 2011. At HubSpot, Leon is responsible for global delivery of the company’s software as a service (SaaS) product. Early on, Leon rebuilt HubSpot’s first generation content management system for high availability and performance. With the rebuild, he designed and operates global delivery using Akamai’s web application acceleration (WAA) and content delivery network (Download) platform. And later extended the same platform to deliver nearly all current generation HubSpot. Leon also implemented and operates an effective cyber-threat defense for HubSpot properties using Akamai’s web application firewall (WAF). Lately, Leon has been working on adding SSL as a product feature for all HubSpot customers. He designed and operated the new SSL service provisioning system for customers and took that proof of concept system from a pilot offering to a fully automated (Akamai API based) production ready beta. Next, Leon hopes to tackle general availability of HubSpot self-service SSL.

Raj is a computer engineer graduate with a post-graduation MBA from the University of Missouri, St Louis. Through the years, Raj has partnered with various branded names in Silicon Valley to help rollout comprehensive tech packages redefining Omni Channel.

Autodesk has used Akamai CDN services for end-user file distribution since 2008. Today, the majority of Autodesk's business involves online product distribution; the company has multiple portals used for trial, education and electronic fulfillment, that all leverage the Akamai ecosystem. Mr. Avendano assisted in the initial implementation of Akamai and currently is one of only a few senior Akamai knowledge experts at the company. Within the Digital Supply Chain, Autodesk uses Akamai’s Download Delivery, Net storage and large File Optimization services, just to name a few. Year after year, Akamai has proven to be the best in-class solution in terms of software download and large file optimization. Additionally, Akamai’s completion rate has been outstanding considering it is supported by one of the largest global edge server infrastructures. Autodesk recently upgraded its configuration to a “property manager”, and the results have been great. The property manager is amazingly fast and the self-services tool is very intuitive (even for non-technical folks). Beginning this year, Akamai will assist Autodesk in offering content to its Chinese customers from within China, greatly improving their download experience. Akamai's ecosystem is 100% safe and reliable, and has had the added benefit of being a cost saver for Autodesk.

Since joining Crocs in early 2013, Harvey Bierman has been responsible for all aspects of the company’s global eCommerce technology platform. This includes all application development and innovation. Since 2014, Harvey has also been responsible for the teams overseeing buying, planning and on-site merchandising for the brand’s US and Canadian businesses. Prior to Crocs, Harvey was the VP of Digital Technology for Finish Line. From 2004 through 2011, he served in sales, marketing, customer success and product management roles at Demandware. Prior to his career in eCommerce, which started at GSI Commerce in 2000, Harvey had an extensive retail career in the outdoor and sporting goods industry. His education includes an MBA from Northeastern University and a BA from Montclair State University.


Ken Bisconti

Ken Bisconti is the worldwide business leader for IBM's Customer Analytics software solutions, which are a core component of IBM’s customer engagement portfolio. He manages IBM's digital analytics (Coremetrics), customer behavior analytics (Tealeaf) and omni-channel journey analytics solutions and is a key proponent of IBM's Smarter Commerce strategy. Ken has more than twenty five years of experience at IBM, most recently as vice president of IBM Enterprise Content Management where he integrated FileNet into IBM and helped bring Datacap, PSS Systems and StoredIQ into the industry's largest ECM business. He has also held a variety of executive positions in IBM's enterprise portal and collaboration software businesses. Mr. Bisconti holds a bachelor's degree in quantitative economics and decision sciences from the University of California at San Diego. He is also a recent member of the board of directors for AIIM, the industry’s leading association of information professionals.

Ernie has been working as a Global Technology Manager at Deloitte for over 9 years and has been an Akamai customer for the past 6 years. His department is focused on solutions architecture and application optimization, capacity, and performance management. The team's mission is to improve the end-user experience. With that, they focus on testing, analysis and recommendations across the delivery cycle. The team also develops and maintains key operational metrics for the various business units. The applications include both internal and external solutions that are used by over 200,000 Deloitte practitioners and large-scale multi-national companies.


David Bornstein

As a Sr. Solutions Architect at Brightcove, David is responsible for developing mobile video solutions for large media companies. Previously, David was the Director of Product Management at Akamai where he focused on Video Delivery Products. Prior to Akamai, David held a number of jobs ranging from Cisco, to an e-commerce company and a developer. David is a University of Massachusetts at Amherst alumnae with a degree in computer science.

Mike Brooks joined the Infor in 2008 through the acquisition of SSA Global, and as Chief Information Officer (CIO) he is responsible for leading the Infor’s internal technology strategy and managing overall IT operations and customer service. His initiatives include improving service delivery through embracing effective and efficient use of technology; creating business models for delivering new services such as virtual desktops; promoting online development opportunities to increase self-service capabilities; and leading strategic initiatives to transform the technology department to be flexible, adaptable and responsive to customer needs. As CIO Mike is responsible for all IT operations and services of Infor’s global business, which consists of 13,000 employees supporting Infor’s 70,000 customers in over 100 countries. As CIO, Mike brings 20+ years of IT experience, with a history of driving efficiency, consolidation and innovation to IT organizations. Included in his leadership requirements is significant experience in Global M&A activities, including due diligence, identification of corporate synergies, and ultimately unification of corporate IT and back office operations. Prior to the acquisitions of SSA Global, his responsibilities included performing due diligence for multiple acquisitions, along with providing oversight of all IT technical operations, including Data Center Management, System Administration, Networking and Telecommunication and a global helpdesk. Mike holds a BA degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Iowa.

Victoriano Castro joined NH Hotel Group in 2003 as a specialist in Oracle technology, and more specifically in transactional portal or mission critical systems. Castro previously spent his professional career working as a project manager in transactional portals within the public sector and Spain’s retail market. During his first three years, Castro supported NH Group throughout the integration of all company systems to offer a reservation system that was fast, reliable and scalable. He has been working professionally within e-commerce since 2008, and has worked as Lead developer for Gymgrossisten AB’s development team over the past year. He is overseeing Gymgrossisten’s platform change to Magento, performance improvements, Akamai services implementation, Symfony2 custom CMS and much more. On his resumé, you’ll find game development, front-end development, web development, software architecture, caching, server administration, and offshore management among other things. When he’s not working he spends time with his family, fiancé Mikaela, son Pontus and a bunch of Japanese Spitzes as the family also has a very successful kennel.

Prior to joining Sling TV in 2015, Ben served as co-founder and CEO of Digitalsmiths. In this role, Ben helped pioneer the development of video discovery solutions that made it easier for consumers to find personally relevant programming at any time across multiple devices. As a result, the company’s products were adopted by seven of the top ten pay-TV providers in the U.S. In 2014, Ben was instrumental in the acquisition of Digitalsmiths by Tivo for $135 million in a move to expand on new opportunities to commercialize and deploy TiVo’s cloud-based services and technologies to operators in conjunction with Tivo’s renowned user interface. Post-acquisition, Ben expanded Digitalsmiths’ efforts to include Latin America and Europe. Additionally, Ben serves on the board or advisory boards of Librestream, T3Media, the Southern Illinois University Alumni Association and Council for Entrepreneurial Development. Ben graduated with honors from Southern Illinois University. Ben is an avid college basketball fan and enjoys traveling with his wife, Jill, and daughter, Gemma.

Prior to Akamai, Mr. Wheaton worked at Intervu, where he managed the Business Communications Sales Group supporting customers like CCBN, MCI, AT&T, Sprint and others. He has started and sold several businesses including VCS Technologies, which he sold to Intervu in 1999. Mr. Wheaton started his career at Procter & Gamble and moved to Pfizer before starting his entrepreneurial ventures. He has a B.S. degree from WPI and a MBA from NYU.
