Vividas Leverages Akamai to Stream Movie Trailers in International Markets for Major Summer Releases
Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading global service provider for accelerating content and business processes online, today announced that Vividas, a developer and provider of video technology and products, is leveraging the Akamai Platform to stream movie trailers for the upcoming films from United International Pictures (UIP), War of the Worlds and Madagascar, across international markets. The trailers can be viewed at http://streaming.vividas.com/uip and http://video.vividas.com/3683_Madagascar/aus/index.html.
Akamai and Vividas technologies are being used to showcase a trailer of the Steven Spielberg/Tom Cruise blockbuster War of the Worlds due for release June 29 in markets around the world, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, South Korea, Mexico, Brazil and Australia. Together, the companies are also delivering a global movie trailer for DreamWorks' Madagascar, which will be released in Europe in July.
"Working with Akamai was a natural fit to preview these summer blockbusters," said Neil Speakman, executive chairman of Vividas. "War of the Worlds and Madagascar are both digitally rich movies, with many special effects -- content perfect for engaging users in full screen video over the web. Therefore, we needed a platform like Akamai's to be able to support the global demand for these movie trailers."
Vividas enables full-screen, high-quality, video content on the Internet with no software dependencies. As a result, they have experienced success with streaming projects encompassing advertising, film trailers, music videos, and internal corporate communications.
"We're excited to work with Vividas to bring high-quality, full-screen digital video to movie enthusiasts around the globe, as digital delivery of video continues to be a fast growing segment of the media and entertainment market," said Paul Sagan, president & CEO, Akamai. "This trend is fueled by consumer demand for more digital video over the Internet. As the entertainment industry looks to reach a broader audience for movie promotion, the ability to provide movie trailers, promotions and other rich content online is critical."
"We're always looking for new ways to engage our customers and maximize their viewing experience," said Andrew Brown, Senior VP International Marketing, UIP. "Vividas streaming video provides high quality, full screen video with no hassle, and by leveraging the Akamai network, our customers around the world have instant access to these trailers."
UIP joins a growing list of entertainment companies that use the Vividas video player to deliver content to consumers, both streamed over the internet and on CD-ROM. Vividas has already provided its media player technology to Buena Vista International, 20th Century Fox, Village Roadshow, BMG Music and V2 Music.

Vividas Group plc (www.vividas.com) is a developer and provider of video technology and products, which enable straightforward playback on personal computers of full screen, high quality video via discs or over networks, including the Internet, normally without requiring software installation. Vividas proprietary technology overcomes the disadvantages of competing CD and streaming market solutions.
