Robert (Bob) Hughes serves as Strategic Advisor to the CEO. With more than 12 years of executive leadership responsibilities at Akamai, Mr. Hughes most recently served as President of Worldwide Operations, overseeing the company's day-to-day global business operations. During Hughes’ tenure leading the company’s global sales, services and marketing operations, Akamai grew annual revenues from $90M to over $2 billion. Hughes also helped launch and grow Akamai’s security business during that time, achieving an annualized run rate of nearly $300 million, and positioning the Company as the leader in cloud security services. Today, serving more Web traffic than anyone in the world, Akamai has become the leading CDN and cloud services platform for businesses to securely deliver high performing user experiences to any device, anywhere.
Having joined Akamai in 1999, Mr. Hughes' responsibilities have included leading Akamai's global expansion and revenue growth. He has led the strategic development of Akamai's direct and indirect sales organization, the growth of the company's professional services practice and the establishment of Akamai's regional headquarters in London and Singapore. By establishing global centers of excellence in the Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific, Mr. Hughes has championed the expansion of Akamai's operations, bringing the company’s technology, services and support closer to its customers.
During his career at Akamai, Mr. Hughes has consistently cultivated new business opportunities in existing and emerging markets, as well as taken on a range of leadership roles across the company. In addition to his role leading global sales, services and marketing, his responsibilities have also included overseeing Akamai’s product management and human resources organizations.
Prior to Akamai, Mr. Hughes held senior sales and business development positions at PictureTel Corporation, developing strategic sales channels to market PictureTel's TCP/IP voice, video and data product lines; and served in sales and marketing roles at Boston Scientific Corporation. Mr. Hughes received a B.S. in Business Administration from Northeastern University, where he currently serves on the Board of Visitors.
