Akamai and Conference Archives Help American Heart Association Go Digital with Sessions Science OnDemand
Cambridge, MA and Johnstown,
Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading global service provider for accelerating content and business processes online, and Conference Archives, developers of innovative solutions for archiving conference and meeting content, today announced that they supported the American Heart Association in offering more than 2,600 presentations online from its Scientific Sessions 2004 annual conference. The presentations were accessed from nearly 90 countries in the first 30 days following the conference, using 70 different language-speaking browsers.
The 27,000+ attendees at November's event in New Orleans, LA are able to access and view presentations from more than 2,600 sessions on the Internet for up to one year leveraging Sessions Science OnDemand and the Akamai EdgeSuite® service. The audio recordings, synchronized slide images and searchable transcriptions are available to attendees who purchased the product at www.sessionsscienceondemand.org. The material is critical to continued education and to the sharing of new and emerging scientific information.
"The Scientific Sessions event features more than 40 concurrent sessions. Researchers, clinicians and other healthcare providers now have the opportunity to take this premier, four-day event and keep it alive for an entire year, accessing and applying this information wherever and whenever," said Vice President, Meetings, Leigh Ann Stockard, of the American Heart Association. "The availability of this product means that attendees can greatly extend the value of the content made available at the conference."
The Akamai EdgeSuite service enables the generation and delivery of dynamic content that can be targeted and delivered from locations optimized for each end user. Given today's challenged IT budgets, the EdgeSuite service allows businesses to cost-effectively extend their critical Web infrastructure across Akamai's global platform, while retaining control of the business intelligence necessary to provide the optimal user experience.
"Capturing content of this type is not new. The true challenge is to provide our Flash-based, fully synchronized and searchable product for more than 2,600 sessions quickly," said Todd Wagner, CEO of Conference Archives, Inc. "Attendees benefit from accessing the content of sessions they were not able to experience on site, and the association benefits by offering additional attendee value. Without the partnerships we have with quality organizations like Akamai, archives of this nature would not be as reliable, or as immediately accessible on a consistent basis around the globe."
"The usage statistics we've seen so far indicate an information-hungry global audience," said Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Arthur, of Akamai. "We are pleased to assist Conference Archives in offering this service to its clients and in ensuring that the online presentations are easily accessible, quickly downloaded in a Flash format and always available."
