Akamai and Delivery Agent Team to Jumpstart New Revenue Streams for Content Owners and Creators
- Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading global service provider for accelerating content and business processes online, today announced that Delivery Agent, Inc., the leader in shopping enabled programming for television shows, motion pictures, sports, music videos and user generated content, will leverage Akamai to deliver its e-commerce enabled video. Delivery Agent and Akamai bring together online video distribution and contextual commerce, enabling the industry to develop a new revenue source from existing video assets.
Delivery Agent's patent-pending Shopisode platform enables entertainment properties and user-generated content creators to monetize video by selling products integrated into programming. 'Shopisodes' are online interactive video clips that allow consumers to connect with and purchase products directly from the content stream. Through Delivery Agent's proprietary video player and product tagging tools and Akamai's digital media and dynamic site acceleration solutions, end-users and advertisers are ensured a superior rich media and commerce experience.
"Three of the 'givens' in today’s media world are the importance and prominence of product integration, the explosion of online video content creators and users, and the advertising industry's efforts to reach and engage audiences," said Mike Fitzsimmons, CEO Delivery Agent, Inc. "Shopisodes capitalize on the dynamic merging of video and product integration, enabling advertisers to easily integrate brand messaging at the point of visual exposure; in effect, providing a direct connection with a consumer at the exact moment their product is seen on screen."
"The convergence of digital media and advertising has created unique opportunities to broaden consumer habits," said Bill Wheaton, vice president of Digital Media at Akamai. "Akamai is helping our customers to create new business models by leveraging the Web, and we are thrilled to be working with Delivery Agent on a revolutionary way to integrate commerce into an interactive, online experience. Delivery Agent is capitalizing on the growing trends in online video entertainment and online shopping to bring a more dynamic, personalized user experience to market."
