IPv6 adoption
The implementation of IPv6 is the next step in the evolution of the internet. Akamai gives customers the support and infrastructure needed in adopting IPv6 successfully.
Akamai’s insights into network traffic extend beyond our own servers. We are monitoring public data, such as public root server traffic trends, to see how the internet is changing and growing.
DNS traffic volume increases 100%
Overall traffic (requests and responses) have shifted between January 2016 and February 2022. Overall, traffic volume on global DNS servers has increased by 100% in that time span.
On November 17, 2020, Chromium 87 was released. In this version, the code responsible for sending junk requests was removed. Global DNS lookups started to drop and by January 2021 were down more than 40% across the DNS root servers.
