Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading provider of cloud optimization services, today announced the appointment of Mr. Philip Chua as Country Manager for Singapore and Malaysia.
In his new role, Philip is responsible for driving business growth and building the Akamai brand in both markets. Drawing on his 18 years of experience in the IT industry, Philip will also be responsible for expanding Akamai’s client base in Singapore and Malaysia, building on the current portfolio that includes Standard Chartered Bank, AirAsia, Media Prima, Cathay Pacific Airlines, Malaysian Airlines and ESPN STAR Sports.
Philip has occupied many leadership positions within multinational companies, most recently as Managing Director, Asia South, for LexisNexis. Prior to this, Philip was General Manager (Software) for South Asia at Hewlett-Packard and Country Manager for Computer Associates (CA) in Singapore.
"Singapore, as the region’s leading media and IT business hub, continues to be an important market for Akamai. In addition, Akamai sees Malaysia among the top three markets in Southeast Asia, with room for growth,"said Philip. "I'm excited to drive Akamai’s business in these markets because we're seeing most organizations enter a post-recession recovery stage, as they embrace key IT innovations such as cloud computing and the adoption of online HD video. As Internet speeds skyrocket across Asia, there will be an increased demand among consumers for more HD content. Akamai has the largest global platform for accelerating Web content and applications, and is the only company that can handle HD content on a large scale - providing customers with the appropriate platforms and opportunities to extend their reach globally."
