Cantos Utilises Akamai to Expand Its Financial Content Offerings and Reduce I.T. Costs by 90%
Akamai Technologies Limited, a subsidiary of Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading global service provider for accelerating content and business processes online, today announced that Cantos (www.cantos.com), the UK's leading provider of business video content to the financial sector, is using the Akamai EdgeSuite service to accelerate the delivery of its financial content offerings in the UK and Europe. As a result, Cantos has reduced IT complexity and running costs by more than 90 percent, expanded its infrastructure capacity and reach, and improved its website performance.
Cantos allows UK and Continental European corporations to communicate with their customers, investors and employees in a video format, using the Internet to ensure ease of access and delivery of information. This includes in-depth interviews with top management of UK listed companies, investor documentaries, financial features, live webcasts of earnings results and analyst and investor briefings. At present, Cantos has more than 45,000 users across 100 countries including institutional investors, private investors, financial journalists and other interested parties.
From its founding in 2001, Cantos faced the dilemma of either outsourcing content acceleration services or creating its own network to guarantee bandwidth and delivery of its content and services for its customers. Cantos chose the Akamai EdgeSuite service because of its ability to provide 24/7 availability and on-demand scalability, no matter the level or geographic location of end-user demand.
"We looked at conventional solutions and were put off by issues such as cost, capacity planning and limited functionality, which would have been a continual problem," said Paul Smith, Cantos' Technical Director. "With EdgeSuite, we had a scaleable solution that could add more functionality and features as we expanded our services. EdgeSuite has greatly contributed to our business expansion, efficiency and profitability, and has greatly improved our customer service."
For example, Cantos has been able to grow its target market both inside the UK and Europe through utilising EdgeSuite's advanced delivery features. Akamai's Content Targeting tool allows Cantos to ensure that its digital goods are not delivered to restricted geographies or unauthorised users. This has been particularly useful for Cantos as it allows them to control user access to content by region and geography -- a key regulatory condition for much of the financial information that Cantos sends out on behalf of its customers. In addition, Cantos is using Akamai's Dynamic Content Assembly technology to assemble and customise Web pages at an optimal location within the Akamai network, thus providing a better customer experience.
Carlos Ramon, Vice President of Sales and General Manager, International at Akamai, said: "Akamai is delighted to be working with such a well-recognised brand as Cantos. Their evolving and increased use of the EdgeSuite service is testament to Akamai's comprehensive portfolio of services - from global content delivery services to business performance management services - designed for companies using the Internet for business delivery and communication with their customers."
The Akamai EdgeSuite solution enables the generation and delivery of dynamic content that can be targeted and delivered from locations optimized for each end user. Given today's challenged IT budgets, the EdgeSuite service allows businesses to cost-effectively extend their critical Web infrastructure across Akamai's global platform, while retaining control of the business intelligence necessary to provide the optimal user experience.
