Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leader in powering rich media, dynamic transactions and enterprise applications online, announced today its technical support of Pangea Day – providing live and on demand streaming, live streaming to mobile phones, and delivery of the Web site.

On May 10, 2008, at 18:00 GMT, millions of people all over the world will come together to watch a 4-hour program of short films. With live broadcast venues in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro and thousands of self-organized events planned in over 100 countries, Pangea Day aims to help bring the world together for a unique shared experience. Pangea Day will be broadcast around the globe in eight languages and through multiple forms of media. The Akamai Platform will help the organizers offer reliable and scalable delivery of and all live and on demand Webcasts, as well as enable the delivery of content to mobile phones.

Akamai will simultaneously be providing the same services to MSN. MSN International has signed on to stream the live 4-hour program in 23 of its markets: Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Arabia, Australia, Canada, UK, Indonesia, Ireland, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Latin America, Mexico, Belgium, Switzerland, France, and Brazil.

"We couldn't reach the audience, and deliver this rich, engaging experience without Akamai's help. It's that simple," said Delia Cohen, Executive Director of Pangea Day. "Our website is designed to engage, educate, and help support millions of people across the globe. Visitors around the world will be watching, and with the help of Akamai, will be able to participate in this first-of-its-kind revolution of film and storytelling."

"The ubiquity of the Internet has transformed how the global community can come together as one to share ideas, offer debate, gather support, and rally around a cause," said Brad Rinklin, vice president of marketing, Akamai. "We applaud the important and creative efforts of Pangea Day, and are thrilled to be in the position to help enable this incredible event."

Leveraging Akamai's global computing platform of over 34,000 servers, will have scalability on demand to support visitor interest. Akamai’s integrated reporting tools will also provide real-time business intelligence to effectively measure the success of this global effort.

The Pangea Day event will feature approximately 24 short films and include a number of exceptional speakers and musical performers, such as Queen Noor of Jordan and Iranian rock phenomenon Hypernova. The featured films were selected from an international competition that generated more than 2,500 submissions from over one hundred countries. The films were chosen based on their ability to inspire, transform, and allow us see the world through another person's eyes.

About Pangea Day

Inspired by the 2006 TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Prize wish of documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim, Pangea Day endeavors to bring the world together and promote understanding and tolerance through film. Pangea Day is a celebration of what unites us, rather than what divides us. Movies can't change the world. But the people who watch them can.
