Akamai (NASDAQ: AKAM), the intelligent edge platform for securing and delivering digital experiences, today announced that it was cited as a Strong Performer in The Forrester Wave™: Zero Trust eXtended (ZTX) Ecosystem Providers, Q4 2018 evaluation. In the report, Forrester evaluated 14 vendors and how their portfolios deliver on specific components of the ZTX framework. Amongst those analyzed, Akamai received the highest scores possible in the network security and workload security criteria, and among the highest scores in the ZTX road map and differentiation criterion, and among the second highest in the ZTX vision and strategy, and people/workforce security criteria.
According to the report, the ZTX market is growing because more security leaders see Zero Trust as a way to address top security and risk challenges. In turn, this adoption has created significant growth opportunities within the Zero Trust market. The report states, “Growth is in large part due to security pros increasingly relying on vendors to act as both technical integrator and long-term partner for planning and actualizing the architectural recommendations of the Zero Trust eXtended ecosystem framework.”
The report states, “Historically, security pros relied on next-generation firewalls and other legacy access technology to enforce Zero Trust microperimeters. Today, there is a variety of adaptive software-based approaches that can accomplish this while more fully integrating the components and capabilities of the extended ecosystem framework. Vendors that clearly align their future vision and road maps to Zero Trust will create differentiation.”
“Akamai is a powerhouse in the network security space and has spent both time and resources in extending its capabilities into other areas of security for clients. This includes DDoS, botnet mitigation, malware protection, and application microsegmentation capabilities,” the report states.
“Akamai’s proven track record as a trusted advisor to our global customer base has fueled our continued investment in security capabilities at the Edge,” said Robert Blumofe, Executive Vice President and GM, Akamai. “We plan to continue to support our customers’ journey to zero trust through further advancements in our security technology.”
Akamai’s Edge architecture offers a key advantage to a company’s Zero Trust adoption by actively differentiating its platform and Identity Aware Proxy (IAP) capability at the Edge. Customers consume the technology as a cloud service, which allows end-users to benefit from clientless and client-based access to specific corporate applications based on authentication and authorization. Furthermore, these customers can leverage context aware access while also seamlessly integrating additional Akamai services such as application acceleration, application security and advanced malware protection anywhere across the globe. Akamai’s approach to Zero Trust security is ultimately designed to reduce risk through strictly limiting application access and protecting end-users, all while improving their user experience.
Akamai’s sophisticated security intelligence is based on its visibility into global attacks. This unparalleled insight across the application layer and in-depth analysis into malware attacks have consistently informed Akamai’s automated attack detection and prevention capabilities at the Edge.
“Digital business transformation is rendering traditional perimeter-based security models obsolete as the application environment becomes stretched across multiple clouds, SaaS and existing datacenter infrastructure,” said Tim Knudsen, Vice President of Product for Akamai’s Enterprise Division. “We believe Akamai is uniquely positioned to enable enterprise IT and security to support the business through a highly-agile, global edge-security platform that strictly limits application access based on the user’s identity and context, while also protecting those applications and users from advanced threats on the internet.”
Within the past year, Akamai has also been recognized by Forrester as a “Leader” in its most recent Wave/New Wave reports for DDoS Mitigation Solutions¹, Web Application Firewalls², and Bot Management³.
