What is Web Security Analytics?

Web Security Analytics offers centralized real-time insight into application-layer threats, including capabilities to detect and manage automated traffic, and verify secure account access — all via a unified, intuitive interface.

Think of it as your security command center, purpose-built to:

  • Investigate live and historical attacks
  • Monitor posture across all properties
  • Drill into request-level data across 60+ attributes
  • Collaborate across teams that are using shared dashboards and filters
  • Streamline operations with integrated alerting and reporting

Web Security Analytics is trusted by thousands of organizations daily to deliver unmatched visibility at scale with customizable dashboards and workflows tailored to security operations centers, threat researchers, and AppSec teams alike. Customers rely on this one single-view platform for smarter and faster threat analysis across their security use cases.

A customer favorite gets even better

If you are just checking out Akamai, then you may not know that Web Security Analytics is a top contender for the most loved and most used tool in our toolbelt. In today’s threat landscape, your ability to act is only as good as your visibility. Web Security Analytics stands apart in the industry with a breadth and depth that go far beyond typical security dashboards.

It offers:

  • Real-time, multidimensional filtering across more than two dozen traffic and attack properties — including attack type, IP, hostname, API ID, bot category, web application firewall (WAF) rule triggered, and more

  • Pre-loaded reports and dashboards, including security center, trends, threat intelligence consoles, and full incident-level views, for a simple start

  • Customizable dashboards and widgets to tailor the experience for different personas, from security engineers to CISOs

  • Custom filters and dashboards that can be shared across teams for consistent incident response

Now that you know why Web Security Analytics is a customer favorite, we’ll explore what’s new — and why these new elements are so important.

Read on to learn more about AI-powered Attack Insights and the AI Assistant chat feature in Web Security Analytics.

What is Attack Insights?

Attack Insights is a proactive, AI-driven data analysis feature that surfaces critical security events across your application environment without requiring users to sift through mountains of log data.

There are three main features that Attack Insights proactively delivers on to make your team more knowledgeable and more efficient:

  1. Proactive threat and anomaly awareness — Integrated threat intelligence that detects unusual patterns in traffic or behavior that could indicate potential security threats

  2. Contextualized attack insights — Provides rich context on each attack which helps teams prioritize responses effectively

  3. Cross-customer and industry intelligence — Aggregates attack insights from across the Akamai ecosystem, enabling customers to benefit from shared experiences and improve their defense strategies by learning from others' responses

This operational game-changer shifts analytics from a reactive to a proactive model by detecting and contextualizing critical threats in real time. It helps inform security teams where to focus, how to respond faster, and how to strengthen defenses with confidence.

Experiencing the main features of Attack Insights

Let’s explore how your team would see and interact with the newest features in Web Security Analytics.

Proactive threat and anomaly awareness

Within the portal, Attack Insights presents customers with proactive threat detection using behavioral analytics and Akamai’s integrated threat intelligence. Think of it as a prioritized list of significant attacks and anomalies — complete with context, such as attack type, affected services, and suggested next actions (Figure 1).

Attack Insights will have your team focusing on the 10% of security events that matter, not wasting time sifting through the noise, and streamlining investigations and accelerating response with context and community insights.

Contextualized attack insights

For each proactive insight, you will see contextualized attack summaries with details on attack type, affected services, triggered rules, and recommended actions. Members of your security team can upskill and deepen their expertise with explanations of which formula of indicators triggered the detection (Figure 2).

Then, your team can continue to review the bulleted list of specific actions recommended to improve and modernize your security stance (Figure 3).

With one-click buttons available on every insight page, you can choose to investigate by using a pre-populated data view of the specific event — or jump to the configurations page to update your security config with the recommended actions.

Cross-customer and industry intelligence

One of the most powerful capabilities in Web Security Analytics is its threat intelligence, which provides anonymized insights aggregated from across Akamai’s network, including the world’s most targeted brands across finance, commerce, games, and more. This isn't generic threat data; it’s industry-specific telemetry from real peer environments.

With Attack Insights, your team can instantly see how similar organizations are responding to the same threat. This visibility turns uncertainty into confidence. When your analysts are evaluating whether to block traffic, they’re no longer doing it in a vacuum. They’re backed by intelligence from a trusted network of peers who are already acting on that same signal.

For times when you want a more holistic benchmark, Attack Insights also shares an all-customers security stance indicator, in addition to your specific industry guidance.

Confidence through community

This intelligence helps elevate your security posture, fast-track defensive decisions, and justify those decisions internally, with clear evidence that top industry players are taking the same approach (Figure 4). Security becomes not just reactive, but proactive.

What Attack Insights means for your security operations

The release of Attack Insights allows security teams to immediately focus on what matters most: streamlining investigations and accelerating response. It’s not just more data, it’s better data, curated for impact and relevance.

In today’s landscape of automated threats and limited resources, security teams can’t afford to waste time chasing noisy alerts or re-analyzing the same logs. Attack Insights addresses that challenge head-on by allowing you to:

  • Focus on real threats — Cut through the noise by seeing only the attacks that stand out from baseline traffic

  • Understand the full picture — Gain clarity with rich metadata and historical views that show when, how, and where the attack occurred

  • Learn from others — Use anonymized benchmarking to compare your response posture with the responses of peers in your industry

All this is built directly into the Web Security Analytics platform with no configuration needed.

The AI Assistant: Natural language meets security analytics

Complementing Attack Insights is the recently launched AI Assistant chat, a natural language interface within Web Security Analytics that makes navigating complex datasets faster and more accessible.

This feature is already available via opt-in for every account in the Akamai portal — and it is delivering security practitioners the dashboard of their dreams every time they interact with it.

With the AI Assistant chat you can:

  • Drill into details by using a prompt like “Show me WAF events from that source IP”

  • Modify filters on the fly by saying, for example, “Add filter for bot score > 60” or “Exclude DoS events”

  • Investigate with context by asking a question such as “What other properties were targeted in the same time frame?”

No query language. No dropdown fatigue. Just plain-language interaction with your data — whether you're a Tier 1 analyst or an AppSec lead (Figure 5). It’s a force multiplier for your team’s time and talent.

Why Web Security Analytics was — and is — a game changer

Security is not just about detection — it’s about action. With instant filtering, natural language exploration, and clear next steps, Web Security Analytics helps security teams close the loop faster. And with more context, your team is learning how attackers are thinking and how your Akamai security is pivoting to continue its robust defense.

With Web Security Analytics, Attack Insights, and the AI Assistant chat, organizations can:

  • Improve operational efficiency by automating investigation steps

  • Upskill teams with intuitive tools that make complex analysis easier for all experience levels

  • Benchmark against peers to understand how others defend against the same threats

  • Optimize posture with continuous visibility, data-driven recommendations, and customizable reporting

With all of these valuable features, including real-time filtering, customizable dashboards, AI-driven insights, and deep investigative tools, it’s no surprise that Akamai customers rely on Web Security Analytics every day, with more than 200 average monthly views.

Now, Web Security Analytics doesn’t just present data. With Attack Insights and AI Assistant, it provides the context and clarity to take action. Web Security Analytics is just another example of how Akamai helps security teams stay ahead of threats — proactively, intelligently, and efficiently.
