Scaling AI-powered application security worldwide
DerSecur creates application security tools that help organizations find and fix software vulnerabilities. Its flagship product, DerScanner, analyzes source and binary code across complex and legacy environments.
When DerScanner added AI to improve vulnerability verification and automate some remediation, it needed far more compute power. To enable real-time AI inference at scale, it chose Akamai for GPU infrastructure and cloud services.
The challenge: Scaling AI securely and efficiently
DerScanner’s goal is to speed up and simplify vulnerability detection and remediation. As David M., Senior Engineer at DerScanner, explained, “We help customers focus on real security risks. We do this by not overwhelming them with alerts.”
When DerScanner added AI to its vulnerability verification workflow, it introduced two main features:
- DerTriage: Analyzes security findings and filters out false positives using deeper code context
- DerCodeFix: Generates secure, context-aware fixes with explanations developers can trust
These AI tools helped reduce noise in vulnerability reports and improve remediation speed. But they require significant compute power. This is especially true for real-time inference across large codebases.
“We needed high-performance GPUs,” said David. “That requirement was nonnegotiable, but these GPUs were expensive and limited in availability.”
DerScanner also needed to stay flexible in delivering its tools. Some customers prefer a cloud model. Others need private, controlled environments to satisfy strict data privacy rules.
Choosing Akamai for AI-ready infrastructure
DerScanner already used Akamai cloud infrastructure for general compute workloads. So it included Akamai in its search for solutions. Most providers could offer basic compute resources. But few could meet the combined need for GPU availability and performance in the locations where DerScanner needed it.
Akamai stood out as a strong fit for these requirements. “GPUs are one of the hardest resources to secure at scale,” said David. “Akamai gave us the performance-to-price balance and responsiveness we needed. It also supports general cloud and high-performance AI workloads on a single platform.”
To power its platform, DerScanner uses several Akamai cloud services:
- Akamai Cloud: Provides the core cloud infrastructure for deploying and scaling AI-driven workloads
- GPU (NVIDIA RTX PRO™ 6000 Blackwell Server Edition): Offers strong performance for AI inference, vulnerability analysis, and automated code remediation
- Block Storage: Provides fast, durable storage for scan data, code analysis results, and AI outputs
- Managed Databases: Supports structured storage and retrieval of vulnerability findings and metadata
- NodeBalancers: Distributes traffic across services to ensure stable, consistent performance for global users
Flexible architecture for cloud and secure environments
For cloud customers, DerScanner offers a managed environment hosted on Akamai Cloud. This includes the application layer, databases, storage, and AI capabilities.
DerScanner’s customizable design supports both simple and complex enterprise settings. “Our architecture is like modular building blocks,” said David. “We combine compute, storage, and GPUs based on what each customer needs.”
For customers that can’t send source code outside their environments, DerScanner uses Akamai’s infrastructure in controlled deployments. This approach ensures reliable performance for verification while protecting sensitive code.
Supporting global growth in application security
With Akamai, DerScanner gained scalable GPU infrastructure to support current workloads and future AI growth. David highlighted the importance of this foundation. “It’s amazing to have a platform that supports different use cases, growing demand, and faster innovation,” he said.
